Regulatory Affairs, Licensing and Environmental Assessment
Candesco is a full-service provider in the areas of nuclear facility licensing and regulatory interface. The skills possessed by Candesco staff, which are essential to licensing and regulatory interface include depth and breadth of technical knowledge of facility design, operation and safety, sound knowldege of the regulatory framework, and experience with identification and resolution of regulatory issues.
We provide:
- Leadership, direction and counsel for nuclear facility licensing and EA activities.
- Interaction with the regulator on behalf of licensees.
- Provision of licensing and licensing support services, with a focus on assessing issues and providing constructive resolution and issue closure in cooperation with the regulator.
- Preparation of licensing and licensing support documentation.
- Development of licensing basis processes, procedures and information requirements.
Project examples:
- Senior Candesco staff were instrumental in the establishment and management of the Regulatory Affairs program at the CANDU Owners Group (COG).
- Candesco provided oversight and management of licensing and environmental assessment activities during the effort to license an experimental fusion reactor in Canada. As well, Candesco participated in the technical and engineering work required in this effort. These licensing and EA activities involved interaction with the public, the CNSC, the affected nuclear reactor site owners and a multitude of organisations with various interests in the project. The project involved applying Canadian regulatory requirements to a new technology.
- Updated the safety reports of all Ontario nuclear stations to ensure they fully reflect the overall technical basis upon which each station received its license to operate.
