Radiation Protection and Health Physics

Candesco provides radiation protection and health physics consulting services to assist organizations in meeting their radiation safety and regulatory responsibilities. Candesco, together with members of its team, has extensive experience in all aspects of radiation protection and health physics. We also maintain a health physicist on staff, certified with the American Board of Health Physicists.

We provide:

• Expertise in the development, modification, and assessment of radiation protection policies and programs to ensure consistency with regulatory requirements.
• Guidance with work planning and dose minimization. Candesco has expertise in the assessment of exposure conditions and the development of work plans in both design and operation phases.
• Dose assessments for releases under normal and accident conditions.
• Design support to ensure integration of radiation safety requirements in the design process and in assessment of designs. Candesco staff have experience in performing ALARA assessments of designs and of operational plans.
• Provide support in developing decommissioning plans and in the preparation of preliminary decommissioning plans.

• Developed radiation protection program for ITER Design.
• Developed criteria for zoning and implemented in design for ITER facility.
• Performed public dose assessments for normal and accident conditions for ITER and Cernavoda NPP.
• Candesco has prepared background papers on radiological protection technologies, high level waste management operational procedures and on the fundamental considerations in developing a safety case for spent nuclear fuel management.
