Michael Grey has nearly 20 years experience in environmental health & safety. He obtained a B.Sc. in Physics and a M.Sc. in Chemical Physics from the University of Waterloo and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety from McMaster University. He is both a Certified Health Physicist and a Registered Occupational Hygienist and he is currently the Past-President of the Canadian Radiation Protection Association.
Mike began his career in the Health Physics Department at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station and later worked with Zircatec Precision Industries, MDS Nordion and SAIC Canada. During his tenure as Manager, Health & Safety for Canatom NPM Inc. he authored the Preliminary Decommissioning Plans for the Pickering Bruce & Darlington Nuclear Generating Stations and the Detailed Decommissioning Plans for the Bruce Heavy Water Plant, the University of Toronto Sub-Critical Assembly and the McGill University Synchrocyclotron Facility. His other projects included managing the characterization, repackaging, transportation and disposal of radioactive wastes, both in Canada and overseas, carrying out the decontamination of a variety of medical, industrial and research facilities, and managing the environment, health & safety program during the construction of the in-station components of the Bruce Used Fuel Dry Storage Facility. After leaving Canatom he prepared a consequence assessment of radiological terrorism scenarios for Defense Research & Development Canada and developed the ALARA Program for the Bruce Steam Generator Replacement Project.
