Ginni Cheema holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (B.Eng) in Engineering Physics from McMaster University and graduated in 2002. She currently is a member of the Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS).
Upon graduation, she worked at Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd (AECL), in the Chalk River Laboratories as a research engineer. There, she was involved in investigating the feasibility of implementing an heat-rejection system in the reactor core by building a scale model (1/10th) of the moderator system. She was responsible for the design, the budget and the work plan for the construction of project under ISO-9000 standards. In addition to those activities, Ginni assisted in crticial heat flux (CHF) experiments of full scale CANDU fuel bundles.
Following her time at AECL, she worked at the Nuclear Waste Management Organization as a research assistant. There, she was involved in various communication, public engagement and technical projects simultaneously at the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO). She was engaged in performing research on stakeholder positions and conducting in-depth research of technical issues for executives and senior staff. Ginni represented NWMO in various settings including international conferences specifically, the International Youth Nuclear Congress. She was also responsible for keeping abreast of international and national waste management programs on a weekly basis, and for reporting key developments to NWMO senior staff and executive. She collaborated with collegues and specialists in reviewing key NWMO background documents and has drafted responses to public submissions.
Recently, at Candesco Ginni has been involved in the full implementation of an Action Tracking program used to identify, monitor and dispose of AECL licensing commitments to the CNSC specific to ACR-1000 licensing. She was responsible for rolling-out tracking system to users and training affected staff to ensure correct use of system. The work involved ensuring the accurate import of actions which would be used act as a licensing registry to ensure a controlled and auditable process for tracking commitments to regulators. She was responsible for the verification of actions and assignment of 3000 actions to technical groups within ACR project. Ginni also assisted AECL in preparing for the renewal of the operating licence for Chalk River Laboratories.
