Senior Advisory Roles in Plant Refurbishment
John Sommerville's career in the nuclear industry spans more than 35 years in Canada and abroad. Starting with Ontario Hydro, John became a qualified nuclear shift supervisor before moving to New Brunswick Power to take part in the construction and start-up of the Point Lepreau CANDU station, in 1975.

John held the CNSC authorized positions of Technical Manager, Production Manager and Station Manager before assuming the role of Director of NB Power's nuclear program in 1990. In 1992 John moved to Romania to become Station Director of the Cernavoda CANDU nuclear station, with responsibility for all aspects of the start up of the unit. The Romanian regulatory agency gave John complete authority, including power of attorney, over the operation of the plant.

Since returning to Canada in 1997, John has been involved in significant consulting work for all of the Canadian nuclear utilities, AECL and the CNSC. In 1998 John was retained to restructure the CANDU Owners Group (COG) and was appointed as the first President of the restructured organization. He has sat on or chaired numerous industry panels and committees and is a member of the Bruce Power Board.

John holds an Honours Degree in Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry from the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
