Simplifying Licensing for the Power Industry
Ross Rock has worked in the nuclear industry since 1991, developing extensive expertise in safety analysis and licensing of nuclear power reactors. His key skills include project integration for large complex activities in the nuclear industry and the development and use of computer simulations. He is also an expert at the development and implementation of information systems to support analysis and licensing activities.

Ross graduated from University of Toronto in 1994, receiving a Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) degree in Engineering Science, Nuclear and Thermal Power. Starting in 1991 and in conjunction with his undergraduate studies, Ross worked as a consultant trainee in the Canadian nuclear industry, developing and testing computer simulations of nuclear fuel bundle behaviour under accident conditions.

Degree Specialty: Computational Fluid Dynamics
From 1994 to 1997, Ross held the position of Nuclear Design Engineer at Ontario Hydro Nuclear, specializing in fuel analysis in support of reactor licence applications. In 1998, Ross received a Masters of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto, specializing in Computational Fluid Dynamics.

In 1999, Ross became a founding partner of Candesco Corporation. In his capacity as a consultant, Ross has held key positions for various nuclear projects including the preparation of the safety report for the MAPLE medical isotope production reactors in Chalk River and management of projects for overseas CANDU facilities.

Knowledge Management System Creation
Ross was the lead developer of the information systems supporting the Licensing Basis Project at Ontario Power Generation, which involved the development of a customized multi-user database that allowed a team of reviewers to efficiently capture the text of approximately 54,000 potential regulatory commitments and re-organize them into 5,000 commitment "threads" or storylines. He also oversaw the conversion of this database into an on-line knowledge management system.

Between 2002 and 2004, Ross provided safety analysis project integration support to Bruce Power in its successful restart of two units at the Bruce A facility. Most recently, Ross has provided licensing, integration and analysis support to Bruce Power's implementation of Atomic Energy of Canada's Low Void Reactivity Fuel bundle design at the Bruce B facility.

Ross has been a Professional Engineer (Ontario) since 1996 and holds the title of Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Candesco Corporation.
