Safety Analysis Expert
Larry Watt has more than 25 years experience providing nuclear safety expertise to the Canadian nuclear industry. Larry joined Candesco Corporation in 2001 and is currently Vice-President - Safety Analysis. Larry has extensive leadership and management expertise, as well as a strong foundation in nuclear safety.
Throughout his career, Larry has performed and managed a wide variety of detailed analyses of postulated accidents and operational transients in all CANDU reactors, a medical isotope reactor (MAPLE) and a nuclear powered submarine (AMPS). Larry has developed a number of innovative techniques, particularly in the area of trip assessment, and was Section Manager of New Methodologies (Ontario Hydro), where a precursor to the Best Estimate and Uncertainties (BEAU) methodology was developed.
Managing the Licensing Process
Larry was the project manager of the Licensing Basis Project for Ontario Power Generation, a major corporate initiative to improve the licensing process. He successfully managed the Safety Report Update Projects for all of the CANDU stations in Ontario and developed the processes by which the updates are now performed.
Larry graduated in 1978 with a B.Sc. in Physics and received his M.Sc. in nuclear physics in 1980, both from the University of Toronto.
