Canadian and US Licensing of the Advanced CANDU Reactor

Candesco staff hold key positions in the licensing efforts for the Advanced CANDU Reactor (ACR) in both Canada and the United States. Two senior Candesco staff acted as the United States Licensing Manager over the course of the project, spearheading certification of the ACR design in a regulatory environment significantly different from that in Canada. Challenges included demonstrating to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission that the Canadian design approach and standards satisfied US licensing requirements.

Candesco staff also provide significant contributions to the Canadian licensing effort. This includes identification, management and resolution of licensing issues associated with development of the safety case and support of the Canadian Licensing Manager at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited.
