In addition to management and integration roles, Candesco staff is experienced in performing detailed safety analyses.

Candesco performed Safety Analyses in support of all CANDU Nuclear Power Plants in the areas of fuel and fuel channel behaviour, reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, containment, dose assessment and trip assessment.

Candesco performed Safety Analyses to assist in resolving the positive power coefficient of reactivity issue in the MAPLE reactor. This included thermal hydraulics analyses using CATHENA, reactor physics analyses using WIMS and MCNP, and trip parameter assessment, where Candesco developed a new scoping tool, STAPLE. This scoping tool has increased analysis efficiencies by providing rapid guidance to focus the CATHENA analysis activities.

Candesco staff developed Electronic Safety Report Tools, which were used in managing the production, review and disposition of comments for the Safety Report. This resulted in significant improvements in the efficiency and auditability of the commenting process.

Candesco provided technical leadership for the international safety assessment of the RBMK Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant in Lithuania.
