Radiation Protection Program Development
Candesco staff have:
Developed the radiation protection program for the construction of the used fuel Dry Storage Container handling facilities located in and adjacent to the Secondary Irradiated Fuel Bay at Bruce NGS B.
Developed the radiation protection program for the characterization, repackaging and removal of low and intermediate level radioactive wastes from temporary storage locations in Canada and overseas.
Developed and established the radiation protection and an environmental monitoring program for the design of ITER. Rolled-out the radiation protection program to designers and institutionalized the program elements in the design process.
RADIATION PROTECTION FOR ONTARIO HYDRO NUCLEAR:
Candesco staff revised the Ontario Hydro Nuclear Radiation Protection Policy & Program and several procedures in preparation for the proclamation of the Nuclear Safety and Control Act and Regulations. This work ensured that OHN governing documents would be compliant with regulatory requirements at the time of the proclamation of the new Act and the creation of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
Challenge
Ensure the current set of documentation governing radiation protection is self-consistent and consistent with the proposed regulations.
Create a process to maintain consistency in the future, recognizing that changes will occasionally be made.
Solution
Re-develop the documents beginning with the policy, then the program prior to preparing the individual procedures.
Ensure that for each document, the “regulatory basis” for specific policies, program elements or procedural requirements is defined. Future revisions would then require that changes would be assessed against the basis given.
Outcome
Client able to easily maintain documents in line with regulations and governing documents are kept self-consistent throughout revisions.
