Dose Assessment

Candesco staff have experience in accident consequence assessments (ACA) using specialized computer codes: PC COSYMA, PEAR.

Candesco staff performed the public dose-assessment calculations for the ITER Safety Case in Canada. Candesco implemented state of the art methodologies for plume dispersion and applied them to the conditions present for the proposed site. The presence of hazards not previously assessed for Canadian facilities required the interpretation of IAEA and Health Canada standards. Candesco co-operated with national and international ITER stakeholders, performed calculations for the new radionuclides of concern and received CNSC approval for the approach. Through this work, Candesco provided the Derived Release Limits for both normal and accident conditions, which were subsequently used for the Environmental Impact Assessment and the Safety Analysis and Assessment.
